Fishing
Spend a few peaceful hours fishing for blackfish, brown trout or redfin in the local rivers and reservoirs.
The Werribee River in Werribee State Park has small trout, redfin and blackfish and other native fish in its upper reaches. The Lerderderg River in the Lederderg State Park contains a good number of trout, but be warned that access to the river is limited by the surrounding rugged gorge country - the best access points are at McKenzies Flat, Blackwood and O'Brien's Crossing.
There are also a number of lakes stocked with trout, with good fishing at times. They include the Newlyn Reservoir near Creswick, the Hepburn Lagoon near Hepburn Springs and the Malmsbury, Lauriston and Coliban Reservoirs near Kyneton.
Alternatively if you don't have any luck in the rivers and lakes, Tuki Trout Farm is a commercial trout farm where you are guaranteed a catch. Have it either expertly prepared for you to enjoy for lunch or clean and wrap it for you to take home. Make sure you grab some famous trout pate whilst you are there!
