The historic townships of High Country house an eclectic mix of shops and galleries selling everything from antiques and collectibles to local handcraft, jewellery and handmade sweets.
Begin in historic Beechworth where you'll find many of the shops located in grand old gold rush buildings. Beechworth Gold, a jewellery shop, can be found in the old Bank of Victoria building, while the Beechworth Wine Centre, specialising in antiques and wine, makes good use of the beautiful italianate Bank of New South Wales building.
Beechworth also has a fine collection of shops selling homewares and handcrafted products. Browse the hand carved furniture and ornate furnishings at the aptly named Finer Things of Life, view hand made pottery pieces at The Potters Beechworth, and of course no visit to Beechworth would be complete without sampling the humbugs from the award-winning Beechworth Sweet Company.
The nearby towns of Yackandandah and Chiltern are also worth a visit for their quaint shops offering antiques and country collectibles.
